It is fact that in the plant world, the only true houseplants are molds, mildew, and fungi- but man endeavors continually to come up with plants which defy nature and will live not only indoors, but in parking basements. In the array of houseplants, or interior plants which are marketed and sold, there are some truly seemingly indestructible plants, low-light requirement sorts which are always safe to send. Others are wonderful to receive but if intended to survive any length of time, are best reserved for experienced plant growers.

Spathiphyllum species which were once called "White Sails" or "White Flag" and are currently marketed as "Peace Lily." There are wide leaved and narrow leaved varieties. Spathiphyllum will grow well in low light interior provided they are kept evenly moist. Outdoors they are prone to sunburn and snail attacks. |
Aglaonema Aglaonema species are notoriously hardy and are a staple plant of interior plantscaping. |

Pothos is another almost indestructible plant, whose main drawback is sap which can cause a very itchy case of contact dermatitis in most individuals. It is not a plant for cats or dogs to chew on, either. Its attractiveness and easy culture make it a staple in interior plantscaping still. Be careful removing old foliage from Pothos, for the species has a well-deserved common name, "Devil's Ivy." |
