The Cathedral of Palms

Sexton and McKee
commissioned The Master Plan of William Lyman Phillips, oft-called Father of Tropical
Landscape Architecture. His Cathedral of Palms, a precise planting of row upon row
of hundreds of Royal Palms has over the years largely succumbed to Vero's not quite
sub-tropical winter temperatures. Hence the Cathedral is a feature of the original garden
which will not be restored, in favor of promoting more cold-tolerant species. Phillips was also Landscape Architect of Florida's Fairchild and Bok Tower Gardens. |
